Covid spread concern; Review meeting in states today

NewDelhi : All states will hold a review meeting today regarding the spread of Covid, following a proposal made by the Union Health Minister in a meeting held yesterday. The meeting will assess hospital facilities, vaccination rates, and other preventive measures.

Daily Covid cases have increased in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Kerala. Maharashtra has recorded over 900 cases, while Delhi reported 733 cases in a single day. The Ministry of Health has instructed states to increase testing and genetic sequencing in the context of the spread of Covid. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya convened the meeting of states as the daily number of Covid-19 cases continued to rise.

The health ministry has also instructed states to conduct mock drills on Monday and Tuesday and to ensure strict adherence to Covid norms. The country reported 6,050 Covid cases yesterday, a 13% increase from the previous day. After last August, daily cases have been continuously increasing. The disease prevalence is high in three places, including Kerala.

Masks have been made mandatory in Sikkim due to the rising number of Covid cases, while hospitals in some states, including Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, have already made masks mandatory.
