New Delhi - According to a recent cybersecurity alert issued by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C), a cyber attack group from Indonesia has allegedly been targeting as many as 12,000 government websites in India. The alert, which was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi.
The alert stated that websites of both state and central government agencies are potentially being targeted by the Indonesian hackers. The alert urged concerned government officials to take preventive measures to safeguard their websites against such attacks.
This is not the first time that the Indian government has faced such cyber attacks. In 2022, a massive ransomware attack crippled the systems of All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), rendering its centralised records inaccessible along with other hospital services. The Indian government recorded 19 ransomware attacks against various government organisations in 2022, which is nearly three times the number recorded the previous year.
Given the rise in cyber attacks against the Indian government, it is essential for officials to remain vigilant and take proactive steps to enhance their cybersecurity measures. Such attacks have the potential to cause significant harm to government operations, resulting in loss of confidential data, reputational damage, and other related consequences.
