Need for a United Peace-Building; Discussion at Council of Cardinals

The Council of Cardinals this week reviewed several topics, including the many wars going on in the world and the requirement for a unified Church-wide effort to promote peace.

According to a statement issued by the Holy See Press Office, Pope Francis was present at the meetings on April 24 and 25, which were attended by all members of the Council and its Secretary.

The conversation focused on the situations of violence and strife in many regions of the world, as well as the necessity for a united peace-building effort that is the responsibility of the Church as a whole, according to the statement.

Synod of Bishops Assembly
The preparations for the Synod of Bishops Assembly, which is scheduled to take place in October, and the sociopolitical and ecclesial circumstances in the various countries to which the cardinals belong were also discussed, according to the statement.

Other Topics Discussed
The steps taken to put the new Apostolic Constitution Praedicate Evangelium into effect were also discussed, with a focus on the attempt to translate the reform work carried out in the Roman Curia at different levels.

The statement closed by adding that the Council of Cardinals' next meeting is slated for June of this year.
