Archbishop Thevenin appointed First Apostolic Nuncio to the Sultanate of Oman

Dubai - His Excellency Archbishop Nicolas Henry Marie Denis Thevenin, Titular Archbishop of Aeclanum, has been appointed by the Holy Father as the First Apostolic Nuncio to the Sultanate of Oman.

Archbishop Thevenin, born on 5 June 1958 in Saint-Dizier, France, was ordained as a priest on 4 July 1989 and is affiliated with the Archdiocese of Genova, Italy. He holds a doctorate in Canon Law.

Archbishop Thevenin began his diplomatic mission for the Holy See on 1 July 1994. He has served in India, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Belgium, Lebanon, Cuba, Bulgaria, and worked at the Secretariat of State of the Holy See.

On 15 December 2012, Monsignor Thevenin was appointed as the Titular Archbishop of Aeclanum and Apostolic Nuncio. Subsequently, on 5 January 2013, he was named the Apostolic Nuncio to Guatemala and was ordained as a Bishop by Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter's Basilica on 6 January 2013.

On 4 November 2019, the Holy Father, Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Thevenin as the Nuncio to Egypt and the delegate of the Holy See to the League of Arab States.

He has now been appointed as the First Apostolic Nuncio to the Sultanate of Oman. However, Archbishop Thevenin will continue his responsibilities as the Nuncio in Egypt and maintain his residence there.

Archbishop Thevenin is fluent in English, Italian, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish.
