Dubai - Micky Jagtiani, a prominent figure in the retail industry and the founder of the Landmark Group, passed away at the age of 70.
Jagtiani's journey began as a taxi driver in London. He later relocated to Bahrain, where he set up a modest baby products shop in 1973.
Since then, the group has experienced remarkable growth, expanding its reach through the acquisition and development of over 50 brands. Among its diverse portfolio are prominent names such as Babyshop, Splash, Home Centre, Centrepoint, Shoemart, Emax, and numerous others.
The Landmark Group, headquartered in Dubai, stands today as a testament to Jagtiani's entrepreneurial genius. With an extensive network of 2,200 stores spanning 24 countries across the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent, the Landmark Group has become a dominant force in the global retail market.
The group's impressive portfolio includes renowned retail formats such as Lifestyle and Max for clothing, as well as Home Center for furniture and home furnishings.
Forbes estimated his net worth to be over $5 billion.
Today, the Landmark Group continues to thrive under the capable leadership of Jagtiani's wife, Renuka, who serves as Chairman and CEO. The couple's three children actively participate in the group as directors, ensuring the continuation of their father's vision and values.
