Pope Francis: Pray To The Holy Spirit Daily

Pope Francis emphasized in his sermon at the Mass on the Solemnity of Pentecost held in Saint Peter's Basilica how the Holy Spirit moves in the world he created, in the Church, and our hearts, giving order and harmony to all domains.

Holy Spirit Renews The Face Of The Earth
The Pope emphasized that the Spirit guides the passage of time and renews the face of the earth by giving peace to the world. And while we may be more linked, we are also more estranged from one another, "anesthetized by indifference," he lamented, emphasizing that our world today, marked by turmoil and divides, sorely needs this harmony it is refusing. He emphasized how the numerous wars and conflicts we see today demonstrate the extent evil people are capable of perpetrating, hostilities driven by the devil's spirit of division.

The Pope, however, recalled how the Lord, at the height of salvation, poured out his good Spirit to offer us the harmony we need for genuine peace to counteract this evil of discord. He underlined that the Holy Spirit is "the Spirit of unity, the bringer of peace" and that he brings harmony.

Harmony In Differences
The Pope explained how beginning on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended upon each apostle, bestowing upon each of them special graces and distinctive charisms. And while it could seem as though these many abilities might cause confusion, the Holy Spirit likes to bring harmony out of contrast, just as in the created world.

The Pope explained how the Spirit uses many languages and does not eliminate differences or cultures but harmonizes everything without turning them into bland uniformity. He recalled how at Pentecost, the Holy Spirit descended in tongues of fire allowing each apostle to speak in various languages with others able to hear and understand them.

When speaking of the synodal journey that the Church is currently on, the Pope emphasized that this road should signify a journey in conformity with the Spirit and, more importantly, an opportunity to be submissive to the Spirit's breath because he is the heart of synodality and the force behind evangelization.

The synodal process, the Pope continued, provides the People of God with a special chance to travel together while being directed by the Spirit, to foster unity within the Church and experience renewal.

Invoke The Holy Spirit
The Pope concluded by outlining how the Spirit fosters a relationship with God while restoring peace in the heart. The Spirit was given by the Lord to reconcile minds, forgive sins, and heal hearts that had been broken by wrongdoing, hurt, or guilt.

The Pope continued by urging us to reflect on our own lives and consider whether we are receptive to the harmony of the Spirit or whether we reject being changed by him by clinging to our own goals and ideologies. He questioned if we hastily pass judgment on others while ignoring our own failings and whether we make an effort to promote peace and establish community. He urged us to call on the Spirit to transcend our own differences.
