Archbishop Thazhath Meets Home Minister Amit Shah: Addresses Concerns of Indian Christians

Kochi - Mar Andrews Thazhath, the President of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India (CBCI) and the Archbishop of the Archeparchy of Trissur, held a meeting with the esteemed Home Minister of India, Shri Amit Shah, on Sunday, June 4th, 2023, in Nedumbasserry, Kochi.

During the meeting, the Archbishop expressed concerns on behalf of the Christian community in India regarding the challenges and difficulties they face in certain regions, with specific mention of the attacks in Manipur.

The Home Minister attentively listened to the Archbishop and the meeting proceeded in a very amicable manner. The Home Minister elaborated on his endeavors for peace in Manipur and the broader Northeast region, which were highly appreciated. In response to the Archbishop's mention of specific incidents, particularly in parts of Madhya Pradesh, the Home Minister assured him that he would personally investigate the matter and take appropriate actions to ensure the well-being of Christians and all citizens.

The meeting involved discussions on the significant contributions made by Christians to nation-building, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and social services. The Home Minister was provided with an overview of recent challenges faced by Christian institutions, to which he pledged his commitment to finding solutions. The meeting concluded after approximately thirty minutes with a positive atmosphere of cooperation and understanding.
