Corpus Christi Celebration in the Papal Basilica with Relics of Saint Therese of Lisieux and Her Parents

The relics of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus and her parents Louis and Zelia Martin will go on display at the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore tomorrow, June 10, 2023, at 3:00 PM, for veneration by the faithful.

First Vespers (evening prayers) will be led by Monsignor Valentino Miserachs, the Canon of Liberian Basilica, at 5:00 PM. Monsignor Rolandas Makrickas, Extraordinary Commissioner of the Chapter of the Basilica, will thereafter preside over Mass.

The Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, traditionally a site of spiritual significance, welcomes all believers who wish to take part in these moments of profound faith, according to Monsignor Makrickas.

The following day, on June 11, 2023, the Community will assemble in the Basilica for vespers at 5:00 PM in honor of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. At 6:00 PM, Cardinal Jose Tolentino de Mendonca, Prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education, will preside over a Solemn Mass.

A solemn Eucharistic blessing will be given as the Blessed Sacrament is carried through the streets of Piazza di Santa Maria Maggiore, Via dell'Esquilino, Piazza dell'Esquilino, Via Liberiana, and back to Piazza di Santa Maria Maggiore.

The ceremony will be presided over by the Almo Collegio Capranica and the Venerable Cappella Musicale Liberiana, with participation from the Liberian Chapter and the local parish and religious groups.

The Solemnity of Corpus Christi and the exhibition of St. Teresa of the Child Jesus' and her parents' relics provide the Catholic community in Rome with an opportunity to deepen their devotion to their religion.
