Birmingham - His Beatitude Moran Mar Baselios Cardinal Cleemis, the Major Archbishop-Catholicos of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church and the Major Archbishop of Trivandrum, has arrived in the United Kingdom to grace the 8th National Convention of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. As the esteemed Chief Guest, Cardinal Cleemis's visit holds great significance for the Syro-Malankara Catholic community in the UK.

Upon his arrival at Birmingham Airport, Cardinal Cleemis received a warm welcome from the members of the Malankara Catholic National Council, including the UK's special pastor and coordinator, Rev. Dr. Kuriakos Thadatthil, as well as various mission priests and representatives. The presence of Cardinal Cleemis during this convention symbolizes a moment of spiritual unity and collective celebration for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church in the UK.

After the successful conclusion of the convention, Cardinal Cleemis is scheduled to preside over Holy Mass in the missions of Manchester and Birmingham. This opportunity allows the faithful to receive spiritual nourishment and guidance directly from their revered leader, strengthening their faith and reaffirming their connection to the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church.

It is noteworthy that Cardinal Cleemis holds prominent positions within the Catholic Church. In 2012, he was honored as the first cardinal of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church, a milestone achievement that elevated the status of his Church. Additionally, he became the fifth Keralite to be appointed as a cardinal, further highlighting his exceptional contributions to the Church and his community.

Pope Benedict XVI entrusted Cardinal Cleemis with significant responsibilities, including leading the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and serving in the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. Furthermore, Cardinal Cleemis actively participated as a cardinal-elector during the papal conclave that resulted in the election of Pope Francis. His representation as a cardinal from a non-Latin Church was a testament to the rich diversity and acceptance of the Catholic Church.

Cardinal Cleemis's visit to the UK as the Chief Guest for the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church Convention signifies a moment of spiritual enrichment and communal gathering for the Syro-Malankara Catholic community.  His presence as the Chief Guest, along with his esteemed role as a cardinal and leader of his Church, demonstrates the importance of this event and the unity it fosters among the faithful in the UK.
