Srinagar - India's largest airline, IndiGo, reported that Flight 6E-2124, traveling from Srinagar to Jammu, briefly entered Pakistani airspace before being redirected to Amritsar. The airline attributed this occurrence to adverse weather conditions.
According to IndiGo officials, the flight unintentionally entered Pakistani airspace for a short duration before promptly notifying the authorities in both countries. The diversion to Amritsar was efficiently coordinated between the air traffic controls of Jammu and Lahore.
Originally scheduled to land in Jammu, the flight was redirected to Amritsar due to the challenging weather conditions. Despite briefly entering Pakistani airspace, the aircraft safely landed in Amritsar without any further issues.
The incident involved an Airbus A321neo aircraft registered as VT-IBN, which is relatively new, having been delivered to IndiGo on June 2, 2023.
This incident follows a similar occurrence earlier in the month when an IndiGo flight from Amritsar to Ahmedabad also entered Pakistani airspace due to poor weather conditions. In that case, the airline emphasized that the deviation was coordinated with Pakistan's aviation authorities via telephone communication, ensuring a safe landing in Ahmedabad.
The weather-related challenges led to poor visibility, resulting in diversions of multiple flights bound for Lahore to Islamabad, including the incident involving Flight 6E-2124.
