Inaugural Voyage Commences for Icon of the Seas, the World's Largest Cruise Ship

Finland - The inaugural voyage of the world's largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas, took place on June 22 after successfully completing its initial sea trials in Turku, Finland. Measuring an impressive 365 meters in length and projected to weigh around 250,800 tonnes, this mammoth vessel, owned by Royal Caribbean International, can accommodate approximately 5,610 passengers and 2,350 crew members.

During four days of preliminary tests, a team of over 450 specialists assessed the ship's main engines, bow, and propellers, as well as conducted evaluations of noise and vibration levels, as stated in a press release. Following these tests, the Icon of the Seas returned to the Meyer Turku shipyard and is scheduled to make its debut departure from South Florida in January 2024.

Offering an unparalleled experience, the luxurious cruise ship will feature the world's largest waterpark at sea, called Category 6, which includes six water slides. Royal Caribbean describes the ship as an exhilarating and extraordinary adventure that surpasses all expectations. Additionally, passengers can indulge in a resort-style getaway, enjoy a beach escape, explore a theme park, and partake in over "40 ways to dine, drink, and be entertained," as highlighted by the company.

For those seeking a more relaxed experience, the ship offers seven pools and nine whirlpools where guests can unwind. Other attractions include a family-friendly aqua park, a swim-up bar, exclusive dining options, arcades, live music, and captivating shows.
Travellers can embark on a seven-night journey from Miami on the Icon of the Seas, exploring the eastern or western Caribbean, with ports of call including the Bahamas, Mexico, Honduras, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas.

Jason Liberty, the president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, expressed his enthusiasm for the ship, stating, "With each new ship, we raise the bar in the travel industry while enhancing what our guests know and love. From the moment they step on board, every experience is specifically designed to give them the best vacation anywhere on land and at sea. With Icon of the Seas, we've taken this to a new level and made the ultimate family vacation."
