"Baltimore Block Party Mass Shooting: 2 Killed, 28 Injured"

Baltimore - Officials have reported that a mass shooting at a block party in Baltimore resulted in the tragic deaths of an 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, with 28 others sustaining injuries.

During a Sunday afternoon news conference, Baltimore Police Acting Commissioner Richard Worley disclosed that all 30 victims had suffered gunshot wounds, ranging in age from 13 to 32.

The Baltimore police identified the two deceased individuals as 18-year-old Aaliyah Gonzales and 20-year-old Kylis Fagbemi.

According to a news release issued on Sunday night by the police, among those injured, 15 were under the age of 18.

Commissioner Worley further stated that as of Sunday afternoon, nine of the injured individuals were still being treated at nearby hospitals, in various conditions.

In another incident late Saturday night in Wichita, Kansas, seven people were shot and two were trampled. One person is currently in custody in connection with the Wichita nightclub shooting, as stated by the police.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities urging anyone with information or video footage, including from security cameras, to come forward. The crime scene, which spans multiple blocks, is currently being meticulously examined.

While at least two individuals were identified as shooters, authorities are exploring the possibility of additional individuals involved, and no motive has been revealed.

During the Sunday afternoon news conference, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott expressed his dismay, emphasizing the tragedy that unfolded during what should have been a joyous celebration. He highlighted the severe consequences of firearms falling into the wrong hands and labeled the act of violence as reckless and cowardly.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive issue of violence in Baltimore, Maryland, and the nation, particularly in terms of gun violence and the accessibility of illegal firearms, Mayor Scott concluded.

The Baltimore shooting is one of three mass shootings reported in July, adding to the alarming tally of 338 mass shootings in the United States thus far in 2023, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive.
