Russian- Ukraine War - According to Ukraine's interior minister, a devastating incident occurred in Lviv, Ukraine's western city, as a Russian rocket struck an apartment building, resulting in the loss of at least four lives.
Furthermore, the mayor of Lviv described it as one of the most severe attacks on the city's civilian infrastructure, leaving an additional 32 individuals injured. President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the assault by "Russian terrorists" and promised a substantial retaliatory action. The Russian military has yet to comment on the reported attack.
In a Telegram message, Mr. Klymenko, the interior minister, informed that seven individuals were successfully rescued from the wreckage, while concerns lingered regarding the possibility of more people being trapped under the rubble.
Mayor Andriy Sadovyi shared a video that displayed shattered windows in the affected building, which seemed to have four floors. The footage also revealed damaged vehicles and debris scattered around the area. In a brief video message, the mayor stated that over 50 apartments had suffered damage. He mentioned that some individuals had been rescued from the rubble recently, but rescue teams were persistently searching, concerned that more residents might still be trapped.
As the extent of the devastation became more apparent, the mayor recorded a new video address. He reported that several building roofs had been blown away, and both a school and dormitories at a polytechnic university had also sustained damage.
In the meantime, Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of Lviv region, revealed that a "critical infrastructure facility" in the city was targeted.
However, no specific details were provided by Mr. Kozytskyi. He emphasized that Russia's primary objective is the annihilation of the Ukrainian people, but he remained resolute in asserting that victory would be achieved.
Over the past months, Russia has been engaged in lethal missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, frequently striking civilian sites and leading to widespread power outages.
Just recently, a tragic incident occurred in Kramatorsk, an eastern city near Russian-occupied parts of Ukraine, resulting in the loss of 13 lives, including children, when a restaurant and shopping center were hit. Despite being geographically distant from the primary front lines in eastern and southern Ukraine, Lviv has also endured Russian assaults.
On June 20, officials in Lviv reported that critical infrastructure had been targeted in the city during a drone attack.
