CBI Makes First Arrests in Balasore Train Tragedy, Three Railway Employees Detained

New Delhi - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) made its first arrests in the Balasore train accident case, taking three railway personnel into custody on Friday. The arrested individuals are Senior Section Engineer Arun Kumar Mahanta, Section Engineer Mohammed Amir Khan, and Technician Pappu Kumar, all of whom were posted in Balasore district. Along with their alleged involvement in the accident, they are also accused of suppressing evidence related to the incident.

The officials stated that the trio has been charged under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. Following their arrest, the accused were presented before the Special CBI Court in Bhubaneswar under tight security measures.

CBI sources revealed that the agency had requested a seven-day remand for the suspects, but the court granted a five-day remand for further investigation into the case.
