Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced his decision to step down from his position after nearly four decades of ruling the country.
In a speech on Wednesday, he stated that his son, Hun Manet, will succeed him as the new prime minister in the coming weeks.
The transition of power is set to take place on August 10, and Hun Sen will retain his role as the head of the ruling Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and a member of the National Assembly.
The recent general election saw the CPP secure a landslide victory with minimal opposition. The new parliament will convene on August 21, and a new cabinet will be sworn in on August 22.
