Jerusalem, Israel - Israel's Ministry of Defense has announced that the US Government has given its nod for Israel to proceed with the sale of its "David's Sling" anti-missile defense system to Finland.
Following this approval, a ceremony is set to take place, involving representatives from the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the Finnish Ministry of Defense, and Rafael Advanced Systems - the Israeli defense contractor responsible for developing the system. The purpose of this event is to finalize a procurement agreement valued at approximately 316 million Euros (USD 344 million).
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) assert that the David's Sling system possesses the capability to intercept missiles launched at Israel by adversary nations, including the likes of Iran and Syria. This advanced defense mechanism offers protection against various threats, including large-caliber rockets and short-range ballistic missiles. It is designed to address emerging challenges and is anticipated to become operational within a span of two weeks.
Differing from the mobile Iron Dome, the David's Sling system remains stationed and provides comprehensive coverage over the entire expanse of Israel from its fixed position, as per insights from the IDF.
Rafael, the system's developer, proudly highlights the prowess of the "advanced, multi-mission interceptor" named the Stunner or SkyCeptor. This collaborative effort between Rafael and Raytheon, two prominent leaders in advanced weaponry development, delivers a hit-to-kill interceptor capable of effectively countering mass threats while being adaptable and cost-effective.
Yoav Gallant, Israel's Minister of Defense, expressed his perspective on this development, stating, "The approval of the David's Sling agreement for Finland signifies a significant milestone in a historic process that will equip our partners with groundbreaking air defense technology. This underscores the robust bonds and defense collaboration shared between the United States, Finland, and Israel."
