India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ruchira Kamboj, lauded the unwavering dedication of the UN Secretary-General in upholding the continuity of the Black Sea Grain Initiative. This initiative garnered her appreciation during her recent statements.
Kamboj also expressed gratitude towards the United States for its tenure as the head of the Security Council, particularly for shining a spotlight on the critical concern of food insecurity arising from conflicts.
Emphasizing the significance of the UN's role in the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Kamboj remarked during the UN Security Council session, "India wholeheartedly supports the UN Secretary-General's pursuit of the Black Sea Grain Initiative's continuation and anticipates a swift resolution to the existing deadlock."
Furthermore, she drew attention to the pressing matter of conflict-induced food insecurity, commending the US for its leadership in the Security Council. Kamboj stated, "We must collaborate to identify shared solutions through constructive dialogue and diplomatic measures."
Kamboj stressed the importance of choosing peace, collaboration, and multilateralism as integral to shaping a collective future. She advocated for fortifying international frameworks and governance structures to safeguard the global order, emphasizing the collective responsibility associated with global laws and values.
In the context of addressing the challenges of food security, Kamboj emphasized India's resolute commitment. She noted India's active participation as a member of the Champions Group of the Global Crisis Response Group Number, underscoring the nation's proactive stance in tackling contemporary global issues.
Regarding the Black Sea Grain Initiative, India's representative affirmed, "Recent developments in this regard have not been conducive to swiftly achieving the broader objectives of peace and stability. I wish to emphasize that India has consistently extended support to our partners during times of hardship."
Reflecting on the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kamboj highlighted India's endeavors to provide food aid, including substantial quantities of wheat, rice, pulses, and lentils to various countries, especially in our neighboring regions and Africa. She emphasized that these actions aligned with India's foreign policy priorities, such as its 'neighborhood first' approach and commitment to the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, viewing the world as an interconnected global family. She also noted India's efforts as president of the G20 during this period.
