Johannesburg - Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the BRICS Leaders Retreat in South Africa on Tuesday, engaging in discussions about worldwide advancements alongside leaders from the five-member group.
Having arrived in Johannesburg on a four-day official trip to South Africa and Greece, PM Modi is scheduled to partake in the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg from August 22 to 24. The invitation to attend this summit was extended by President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa. Notably, this marks the inaugural in-person BRICS Summit after a series of virtual meetings spanning three years, necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic.
"Strengthening the bonds within BRICS! PM @narendramodi arrives at Summer Place to join the BRICS Leaders Retreat. He received a warm welcome from host President @CyrilRamaphosa of South Africa," stated Arindam Bagchi, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Bagchi also emphasized, "PM, in conjunction with other BRICS leaders, will deliberate on global developments and harnessing the BRICS platform to devise solutions for global challenges."
