UAE Government Employees Accorded with Work Flexibility on Start of Academic Year for Parental Involvement

Abu Dhabi: The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has released a specialized circular addressed to all ministries and federal entities concerning the Back to School Policy, aimed at enhancing employees' work-life equilibrium and fostering family unity.

For the primary stage and beyond, the policy introduces a flexible approach on the inaugural school day, allowing employees to adjust their arrival and departure times. This enables parents to accompany their children to and from school.

This adaptability is applicable for a maximum period of 3 hours exclusively on the first day of school. Moreover, the policy takes into consideration the diverse commencement dates of various educational institutions, guaranteeing that parents are not disadvantaged due to specific school schedules. Furthermore, recognizing the needs of parents with young children, those with kids attending nurseries or kindergartens can avail themselves of scheduling flexibility during the initial school week. This accommodation assists parents in acclimating to new routines as they settle their children into these early educational settings. Comparable to the provision for primary level and beyond, this flexibility is also limited to 3 hours each day.

Beyond the commencement of the school year, the FAHR policy extends this flexibility to encompass other school-related events and occasions throughout the academic calendar.

Employees are entitled to use up to 3 hours for purposes such as attending parent-teacher conferences, attending their children's graduation ceremonies, and participating in various school functions.

The Federal Authority underscores the necessity of maintaining a balance with this flexibility, ensuring it does not impede workflow or compromise the quality of service, all the while adhering to the regulations outlined in the Federal Government's Human Resources Law.
