Moscow - Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman, expressed Russia's perspective on the potential return of US nuclear weapons to British territory, warning that such a move would be seen as a step towards escalation rather than addressing the pressing issue of removing nuclear weapons from European countries. Zakharova's comments came in response to reports from British media suggesting the United States might redeploy its nuclear weapons to the UK after a 15-year absence.
Zakharova criticized this practice as destabilizing and labeled it as anti-Russian. She highlighted that it involved joint planning and regular drills for nuclear attacks on Russian targets from non-nuclear European nations.
In response, Zakharova stated that Moscow would have to take countermeasures to protect the security interests of Russia and its allies. She also pledged to intensify efforts to demand the return of all US nuclear weapons to US territory, along with the dismantling of infrastructure that enables the deployment of nuclear weapons in Europe.
