London - On Wednesday morning, a power supply issue at Thames Water's Ashford and Hampton water treatment facilities led to water supply problems in over 50 postal code areas. Residents in neighborhoods such as Putney, Wembley, Twickenham, Richmond, Southfields, Hampton, Uxbridge, and White City were affected, with some experiencing no water or low water pressure. Hounslow Council also reported water supply issues in parts of the borough.
Numerous schools were forced to close as a result of the situation, while others, including Hampton High, were closely monitoring the situation and keeping parents updated throughout the day. Vineyard School in Richmond advised parents to collect their children, and Richmond Council reported the closure of some libraries due to the water supply problem.
Despite the challenges, some residents have reported that their water levels have returned to normal. However, the following postcodes are still affected: SW4, SW8, SW9, SW13, SW14, SW15, SW18, SW19, TW1, TW2, TW3, TW4, TW5, TW7, TW8, TW9, TW10, TW11, TW12, TW13, TW14, TW17, W1H, W1H, W1M, W1N, W2, W3, W4, W6, W7, W10, W12, W13, W14.
MP for Twickenham, Munira Wilson, expressed alarm that some schools in her constituency had to close and urged Thames Water to resolve the issue promptly. Residents took to social media, including site X (formerly known as Twitter), to demand more information and assistance, with one person highlighting the difficulties faced by their elderly neighbors.
Thames Water issued a statement apologizing for the inconvenience caused by the low water pressure or no water supply, attributing it to the power supply problem at their Ashford and Hampton facilities in west London. They reassured the public that they are working diligently to rectify the issue and restore normal water supply, promising to provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available."
