Martha Patricia Molina, a lawyer and researcher, has accused the Nicaraguan regime of forcibly detaining Father Osman José Amador Guillén without legal justification. She described the priest's arrest as a "kidnapping" by the Sandinista Police on the night of September 8. Molina explained that there was no court order justifying his detention, and his whereabouts remain unknown. She suggested that Father Amador was targeted because he had recently requested prayers for Bishop Rolando Álvarez, who is currently imprisoned.
According to reports, the priest was apprehended when a group of riot police entered a Catholic church where clergy members were meeting around 10 in the evening. Father Amador had served as the director of Cáritas Estelí until it was shut down by the Sandinista regime in February 2022.
Molina expressed concerns that Father Amador might be implicated in the case of priests Eugenio Rodríguez Benavides and Leonardo Guevara Gutiérrez, who were arrested in May and are being investigated for administrative matters related to the defunct Diocesan Caritas of Estelí.
Molina also highlighted the regime's surveillance of parishes, with infiltrators monitoring them around the clock. She revealed that the homilies of priests are recorded and analyzed by the regime, and the mention of Bishop Rolando Álvarez in Masses and prayers has been forbidden. Despite these restrictions, lay groups, priests, and seminarians continue to secretly pray for the imprisoned bishop, as those who mention him in public can face police visits and arrests.
