New Delhi - Three terrorists were killed in an encounter that unfolded between security forces and militants in Uri, a town in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, on Saturday. The encounter took place in the Hathlanga forward area of Uri. In a social media post on X (formerly Twitter), the Kashmir Zone Police reported, 'Another terrorist killed (Total 03). Search operation in progress. Further details shall follow.'
The Army disclosed that the three terrorists were attempting to infiltrate the Indian side but were intercepted by vigilant troops. The Army's Chinar Corps stated on X, 'In a Joint Operation launched by the Indian Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and intelligence agencies, an infiltration bid was foiled today in the morning hours along the LoC in Uri Sector, Baramulla.' The elimination of the third terrorist by the security forces occurred after two terrorists were neutralized within a few hours on Saturday morning.
While the bodies of two militants have been recovered, the retrieval of the third terrorist's body is hampered by firing from a Pakistani post in the vicinity.
In an earlier statement on X, the Kashmir Zone Police reported, 'Encounter has started between terrorists and Army & Baramulla Police in the forward area of Uri, Hathlanga in Baramulla district. Further details shall follow.'
This development coincides with the Indian Army, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, resuming operations for the fourth consecutive day against terrorists concealed in the forested terrain of Anantnag district. Drones are being utilized by the Army to pinpoint the terrorists' locations.
On Wednesday, a joint force of the Army and police launched an operation to track down terrorists in the forests surrounding Gadool village in Anantnag's Kokernag area. According to officials, 2-3 militants are believed to be engaging security forces in the hilly terrain of Anantnag district.
Quoting a statement from the additional director general of police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, the Kashmir Zone Police posted on X a day ago, 'Retired Police/Army officers should avoid the “Ambush Hypothesis.” It is a specific input-based operation. The operation is in progress, and all 2-3 trapped terrorists will be neutralized.'
Security officials reported on Friday that a soldier who had gone missing lost his life during the operations. 'One more soldier has lost his life in the Anantnag operations. He had been reported missing since yesterday. During joint security operations against terrorists in the Anantnag area, forces dropped grenades on suspected terrorist hideout locations using drones,' said security officials.
The terrorists are suspected to be affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), a shadow group linked to the Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba.
