Kochi - Dr.Varghese Moolan, renowned for his significant contributions to both industry and philanthropy, has received the prestigious Media Icon Award from the KCBC Media Commission.
Serving as the Commonwealth Trade Commissioner, Dr. Moolan has garnered numerous accolades for his remarkable achievements. Notably, the film "Rocketry," produced by Dr. Varghese Moolan in collaboration with the renowned actor Madhavan, achieved the distinction of being named the best film at the national level.
His diverse roles include those of a journalist, author, hymn writer, leader of eight companies, and a dedicated philanthropist. His third novel, "Ee Pravasikalil Oruvan," was published in 1980. The Moolan and Vijay brands owned by him enjoy widespread recognition in more than 35 countries.
Dr. Moolan is the first Indian to obtain a Saudi investment license and membership in the Saudi Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he founded the Global Malayalee Council in 1999.
Dr. Moolan's philanthropic efforts encompass a wide range of activities, including kidney transplants, heart surgeries, home construction, over 100 marriage assistance programs, and scholarships for underprivileged children. These charitable endeavors are now conducted through the Varghese Moolan Foundation, established in 2010. The foundation is responsible for various aid projects, such as the "Home Sweet Home" housing scheme, "Kindle a Candle" medical aid initiative, "Fly the Firefly" educational support program, and "Touch a Heart" heart surgery assistance project, which has successfully performed surgeries on children's hearts.
In the second phase, 60 children underwent heart surgeries at Kochi Amrita Hospital, followed by 81 children at Ernakulam Lisie Hospital in the third phase in 2016, and 60 children at Kochi Aster Hospital in the fourth phase in 2022. The Varghese Moolan Foundation has been instrumental in distributing more than 22,000 food kits in the Angamaly Constituency alone during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2023, Dr. Varghese Moolan was appointed to a significant role. In February 2016, he was hailed as the "Messenger of God" in the global diaspora by the magazine "Malayalam Kantariyam."
This distinguished philanthropist and industrialist will be honored with the KCBC Media Commission's Icon Award 2023. The announcement of this prestigious award was made by Mar Joseph Pamplani, Chairman of the KCBC Media Commission. Dr. Moolan will also receive the Catholic Bava Award from KCBC President H.B Moran Mar Baselios Cardinal Cleemis at the POC on September 21.
