New Delhi - On Day 3 of the Special Session in Parliament, the Lok Sabha is scheduled to engage in a comprehensive discussion regarding the Women's Reservation Bill. This historic legislation was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Day 2 of the Special Session following the inauguration of the new Parliament building.
The implementation of this reservation will become effective after a delimitation exercise is carried out and will remain in force for a duration of 15 years. The government has articulated that the Women's Reservation Bill is designed to facilitate greater participation of women in policymaking, both at the state and national levels. The bill's statement of purpose underscores the crucial role of women in achieving India's objective of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
In today's proceedings, it is expected that Smriti Irani, a prominent BJP leader and Union Minister, will address the Lok Sabha on this bill, while Congress leader Sonia Gandhi is also set to share her perspective on the matter. It is noteworthy that the Women's Reservation Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2010; however, it was not taken up in the Lok Sabha and consequently lapsed in the lower House of Parliament.
