Winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bat first. Despite losing their openers early, Pakistan posed a massive score of 345 for 5 at the end of the innings. Thanks to the spectacular performance of Muhammad Rizwan (103 runs), and half centuries by captain Babar Azam (80 runs) and Saud Shakeel (75 runs).
Chasing a huge target of 346 runs, New Zealand lost opener Conway on the first ball of the second over. But Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson played crucial innings and for the second wicket added some crucial runs.
Rachin Ravindra played a superb innings and added 97 runs from mere 72 balls before he was bowled by Salman Ali Agha. Kane Williamson (54), Darry Mitchell (59) and Mark Chapman (65) scored half-centuries while Neesham added a valuable 33 runs off just 21 balls, taking New Zealand close to the target. Chapman remained unbeaten.
