Tehran - Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has issued a warning to Israel, expressing concern that continued strikes on Gaza could lead to a situation where the Middle East spirals out of control. He also criticized the United States for providing military support to Israel. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in response, emphasized the seriousness of the conflict, stating that it was a "do or die" situation for his people in the battle against Hamas.
Iran is known to support both Hamas, the group that initiated attacks on Israel, and Lebanon's Hezbollah. According to the Hamas-run health ministry, more than 4,600 Palestinians were reported killed in Gaza over the last two weeks, while Israel announced an intensification of its air strikes.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian's warning included the possibility of severe and far-reaching repercussions regionally and for proponents of war if the situation continues. He also argued that the conflict in Gaza was essentially a proxy war carried out by Israel on behalf of the United States, citing U.S. military support for Israel.
Top U.S. officials, including Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, have expressed concerns about the potential for the conflict to escalate. They are taking measures to ensure the defense of Israelis and U.S. citizens. Several bases used by the U.S.-led coalition in Iraq have been targeted in recent drone and rocket attacks.
Prime Minister Netanyahu also warned Hezbollah, which is active near the border with Lebanon, not to enter the war, threatening a forceful response. Hezbollah has declared its readiness to fight against Israel.
There have been exchanges of fire between Israel and Hamas in southern Lebanon, resulting in casualties on both sides. Israel has ordered the evacuation of northern communities. Additionally, Israeli missiles struck Damascus and Aleppo international airports in neighboring Syria, causing damage to their runways and resulting in casualties among airport workers.
