Microsoft's AI Office Assistant: $9,000 and 300 Friends Required

Microsoft's 365 Copilot AI assistant is now accessible to specific enterprise clients. The introduction of Microsoft's Microsoft 365 Copilot system comes with a $30 monthly premium per user. However, for access, enterprise customers are required to commit to a minimum of 300 users and reach out to Microsoft directly to join the program.

By opting for this premium service, businesses gain access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, which offers capabilities such as document summarization, email generation, task planning from notes, and enhancing Excel analysis. Over the past few months, more than 600 enterprise customers have participated in a paid early access program for Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Despite the initial high cost, Microsoft anticipates a strong adoption of Microsoft 365 Copilot among businesses. Forrester Research estimates that by 2024, approximately 6.9 million US knowledge workers will be utilizing Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: Preorder Access for Enterprise Customers

While Microsoft 365 Copilot is becoming available today, it's more akin to a preorder event, with immediate access limited for most users. TJ Devine, Microsoft 365's Senior Director of Product Marketing, clarifies that enterprise customers can contact their Microsoft account representative to acquire Microsoft 365 Copilot. Additionally, customers who are currently subscribed to Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 plans (or Business Standard / Premium) can start utilizing Bing Chat Enterprise immediately.

This low-key launch is likely due to the fact that it's primarily available to Microsoft 365 E3 and E5 commercial subscribers. It excludes those still on Office 365 plans and even Microsoft 365 Business Standard and Business Premium subscribers. Microsoft 365 Monthly Enterprise Channel users will have to wait until December to access Copilot features.

Certain aspects of the Microsoft 365 Copilot experience remain in the preview phase. As noted by Mary Jo Foley at Directions on Microsoft, Copilot for Excel is still in the preview stage. Furthermore, Copilot for OneNote is exclusively accessible on Windows, and the SharePoint Copilot preview is set to commence in November. The preview for Copilot in OneDrive is scheduled to begin in December.
