In a historic moment, 'The Face of the Faceless' made its debut at the Vatican, marking the first-ever screening of a Malayalam film within its walls. The screening, held for bishops and special guests near Pope Francis's residence on November 24, garnered attention as the film narrates the compelling life story of Sister Rani Maria, a Malayali nun tragically murdered in Indore on February 25, 1995.
Vincy Aloysius, honored with the Kerala State Award for Best Actress this year, delivered a captivating portrayal of Sister Rani Maria in the film. Sister Rani Maria's impactful work in Indore, where she championed education and self-sufficiency for the common people, resonated deeply with the audience.
The tragic incident occurred when Samander Singh took the life of Sister Rani Maria during her bus journey from Uday Nagar to Indore. Recognizing her contributions, the Church declared Sister Rini Maria a Blessed Martyr on November 4, 2017.
Notably, 'The Face of the Faceless' received support from Vatican City for its promotion, with arrangements made for Pope Francis to personally view the film. Directed by Shaison P Oussep and produced by Sandra D’Souza Rana under the banner of Tri Light Creations, the film was released on November 17 and has already graced approximately 80 theaters across Kerala.
The movie, shot across Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Kerala, features a captivating musical score by Alphonse Joseph, with lyrics penned by Kaitapram Damodaran Namboothiri.
Vatican screening stands as a testament to the universal resonance of Sister Rani Maria's story and the growing global recognition of Malayalam cinema."
