Saint Irene of Rome

Saint Irene of Rome

St. Irene of Rome was the wife of Saint Castulus, a Roman military officer who was martyred in 286 for propagating the Christian faith. She passed away in 288 while residing in the Roman Empire under Diocletian. Legend has it that she healed St. Sebastian after he was shot full of arrows, as shown in the picture by Vicente López y Portaña.
