In an announcement from the Holy See Press Office, Pope Francis is set to visit four countries spanning Asia and Oceania from September 2 to September 13, 2024. This tour, marking his 43rd Apostolic Journey, will include stops in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Singapore.
Pope will initiate his journey departing from Rome on September 2. His first destination is Jakarta, Indonesia, where he is scheduled to arrive on September 3 and stay until September 6. Indonesia, notable for being the world’s largest Muslim-majority country, has a significant Catholic minority of over 8 million people.
Following his visit to Indonesia, Pope Francis will continue to Papua New Guinea. He will be in Port Moresby and Vanimo from September 6 to September 9. The Catholic community in Papua New Guinea comprises about 32 percent of its population.
The journey will then lead him to Timor-Leste, landing in the capital Dili on September 9 and departing on September 11. Timor-Leste is predominantly Catholic, with Catholics making up about 96 percent of the population.
The final leg of his journey will take him to Singapore, from September 11 to September 13. In Singapore, Catholics constitute roughly 3 percent of the population.
The detailed itinerary of Pope Francis's Apostolic Journey will be released later, as per the Holy See Press Office. This upcoming tour follows his expressed intentions, reported earlier, to visit various global regions, including a trip to his native Argentina later in the year.
