Forensic Team and Dog Squad Deployed After Hathras Stampede Claims 121 Lives

New Delhi - In the aftermath of a devastating stampede in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh, the death toll has tragically risen to 121, with 28 others injured during a religious gathering known as 'Satsang'. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, has sparked a flurry of investigative efforts and expressions of grief from officials and the community alike.

A forensic team accompanied by a dog squad has been deployed to the site to gather crucial evidence, including personal belongings like shoes and sheets used by the attendees. The forensic team member overseeing the operation commented on the nature of their findings but refrained from disclosing specific details.

Among the injured, six individuals are receiving medical care at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Aligarh, while an equal number are admitted to Deen Dayal Hospital in Aligarh. Nine more are undergoing treatment at Bagla Hospital in Hathras, with one patient at Agra SN Medical College and six others at Etah Medical College in Hathras, highlighting the severity and widespread impact of the stampede.

The search for Narayan Saakar Hari, also known as Bhole Baba, the spiritual leader presiding over the 'Satsang', has intensified. Uttar Pradesh police launched a search operation at Ram Kutir Charitable Trust in Mainpuri district, where the preacher was believed to be, yet he remains elusive.

In response to the tragic events, an FIR has been filed against the organizers of the religious event, including 'Mukhya Sewadar' Devprakash Madhukar and others, underscoring the legal ramifications of the incident. Eyewitness accounts, such as that of Shakuntala Devi, described scenes of chaos and panic as attendees tried to exit the venue, hindered by uneven terrain.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has assured the public of a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances leading to the stampede, emphasizing the need to determine whether it was an accident or a deliberate act. He reiterated the government's commitment to uncovering the truth and holding accountable those responsible for the tragedy.

To facilitate a thorough probe, a specialized team under the leadership of Additional DG Agra has been tasked with compiling a detailed report on the incident. The Chief Minister condemned any politicization of the tragedy, urging unity in addressing the immediate aftermath and ensuring justice for the victims and their families.

As the community mourns the loss of so many lives and grapples with the aftermath of the stampede, questions loom over the safety protocols during large-scale gatherings and the responsibilities of event organizers to ensure public safety. The incident has not only shaken Hathras but also prompted reflections on the measures needed to prevent such tragedies in the future.
