Canberra: Millions of Australians are set to see an increase in their Centrelink payments starting September 20, as adjustments and indexation are applied across various Services Australia benefits, including Rent Assistance, JobSeeker, and several pensions.
What to Expect
From September 20, Centrelink payments will see a rise, including a notable increase in Rent Assistance and JobSeeker benefits. Rent Assistance recipients will experience a significant boost, with the maximum rates increasing by 10%. For single recipients renting alone without children, this translates to an additional $23 per fortnight. Families with one or two children will see their payments increase by $27.02 per fortnight.
JobSeeker recipients will also benefit from these changes. Those moving to the higher rate of JobSeeker, particularly single individuals with an assessed partial capacity to work between 0 to 14 hours per week, will receive $849.50 per fortnight—an increase of $71.20. Even those remaining on the lower rate will notice an improvement; single recipients without children will receive an additional $15.30 per fortnight, while those with a child will see a $19.80 increase.
Indexation Across Other Payments
In addition to these increases, indexation will be applied to various other Services Australia payments, including the Age Pension, Disability Support Pension, Carer Payments, and Parenting Payments. These adjustments, which vary by payment type, will provide increases of up to $41.50 per fortnight.
For single age pensioners, this means an additional $28.10 per fortnight, with couples receiving a combined increase of $42.40. These adjustments will also apply to Disability Support Pension and Carer Payment recipients, bringing the total fortnightly payment, including the energy supplement, to $1,114.40 for singles and $862.60 for each member of a couple.
Financial Relief on the Horizon
These upcoming changes offer welcome financial relief to millions of Australians, with the boosts designed to help ease the burden of living costs. As these changes come into effect, recipients can look forward to seeing the increases reflected in their payments, offering a much-needed cushion in these challenging times.
