In a touching gesture, Pope Francis has penned the preface for a new book titled "The Goal is Happiness", published by Italian publisher Edizioni Ares. The book features a collection of 366 reflections on faith and life by Karol Wojtyła, who later became Pope John Paul II. Curated by Marina Olmo in collaboration with the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, the collection contains mostly unpublished texts written before Wojtyła’s papacy.
The reflections offer insights into the human, pastoral, and theological gifts of one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. In his preface, Pope Francis reflects on how Saint John Paul II continues to inspire people today through his teachings, way of life, and ability to connect with others, especially in a world marked by restlessness and unpredictability.
Pope Francis emphasizes that to truly understand the legacy of Saint John Paul II, one must first know Karol Wojtyła, the man behind the papacy. The collection showcases Wojtyła’s personal experiences and challenges, including the tragedy of losing his family members, and highlights his deep connection with young people.
Pope expresses his hope that the 366 short passages, which were carefully selected to offer daily reflections, will inspire readers and bear fruit in their lives. He also extends his gratitude to all contributors, particularly the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, where Wojtyła once taught.
Pope Francis offers a blessing to the readers, entrusting them to the care of the Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church.
