Gunmen Attack Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Auchi Diocese, Rector Abducted

The Catholic Diocese of Auchi has reported a violent attack on the Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, located in Ivhianokpodi, Etsako East Local Government Area, Edo State. Around 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, during evening prayers and Benediction, armed assailants invaded the seminary grounds, abducting the seminary’s Rector, Rev. Fr. Thomas Oyode.

While the Vice Rector and all seminarians were unharmed and have been accounted for, they have been temporarily relocated to a secure location as authorities work to bolster security around the institution. At this time, no communication has been made with the abductors.

The Diocese has officially reported the incident to law enforcement, who are expected to assist in efforts to ensure Fr. Oyode's safe return. The Catholic community and all people of goodwill are urged to pray for the priest's release.

The Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary, established by Bishop Gabriel Dunia in 2006, has played a vital role in training future clergy for the Diocese of Auchi, with over 500 students having completed their studies at the institution.
