Catholic Congress Global Committee Announces Solidarity Day in Support of Munambam Residents

In a show of support and solidarity with the people of Munambam, whose rights to self-acquired residential lands are threatened by the encroachment claims of the Waqf Board, the Catholic Congress Global Committee has declared Sunday, November 10, as “Munambam Solidarity Day.”

The commemoration aims to raise awareness about the unjust land claims by the Waqf Board on properties owned by Munambam residents. Demands are being made to end the Waqf Board’s unwarranted assertions, amend the Waqf Act with retrospective effect, withdraw the resolution passed by the Kerala Legislative Assembly supporting the Waqf bill, and hold representatives who blindly support the Waqf encroachment accountable to the people. Additionally, the call highlights the need to address the duplicity of certain political parties and leaders who have not supported Munambam’s rightful landowners.

On Solidarity Day, the Committee urges parishes and local unit centers to host protests, rallies, and meetings, present resolutions, and submit petitions to representatives as part of a coordinated public response.

The Catholic Congress Global Committee extends a heartfelt invitation to all to join in this effort and stand with the residents of Munambam. "Let us recognize that the threat faced by the residents of Munambam today could become a reality for any of us tomorrow,” said a committee representative.
