Kannur: Mar. Dr. Dennis Kuruppasery was officially installed as the inaugural Auxiliary Bishop of Kannur Diocese, following his appointment by Pope Francis on August 15, 2024. The consecration ceremony took place at 3 pm at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Barnassery, with Salvatore Penacchi, President of the Pontifical Academy in Rome, presiding over the rites.
Cardinal Oswald Gracias, Archbishop of Mumbai, and Dr. Joseph Kalathil Parampil, Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Varappuzha, joined as co-celebrants, while Dr. Father Varghese Chakkalakkal delivered the homily. The Bishop of Kannur Diocese, Dr. Alex Vadakkumthala, also played a central role in the function.
Special guests including Cardinal Mar Baselios Cleemis, Catholicos of India and Nepal, Dr. Leopoldo Girelli, Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal, and Mar Joseph Pamplani, Archbishop of Thalassery, extended their greetings and offered words of encouragement.
Ahead of the ordination, at 2:45 pm, a procession of distinguished guests was held from the Barnassery BM UP School Junction to the Holy Trinity Cathedral courtyard, accompanied by lively musical performances.
The event saw the participation of numerous bishops, vicars general, priests, representatives of religious communities, leaders of lay organizations, civic dignitaries, and the faithful from across various dioceses, all coming together to witness this historic occasion.
