New Delhi: Traffic in parts of Delhi and Noida has come to a near standstill as farmers prepare for their ‘Delhi Chalo’ march toward the Parliament complex on Monday. Organized by the Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) alongside other farmer groups from over 20 districts, the march aims to press the central government to address their key demands.
Visuals from Delhi-NCR show severe congestion, with vehicles crawling on the Chilla border and a complete standstill on the DND flyway, where traffic stretches across multiple lanes. Heavy police presence and barricading have added to the delays. The Noida Police issued a traffic advisory on Sunday, cautioning commuters about diversions and suggesting alternative routes to manage the disruptions.
Security has been intensified throughout the capital, with checkpoints staffed by traffic police conducting thorough inspections. The farmers, united under the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) banners, have been staging protests against the government over demands tied to agricultural laws, including compensation and welfare measures. Many have been stationed at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February.
The protesting farmers are calling for better compensation for land acquisition, increased benefits under the old acquisition law, employment and rehabilitation for landless farmers' families, proper execution of government orders issued by the High Power Committee, and resettlement of affected populated areas.
BKP leader Sukhbir Khalifa stated that the farmers are ready for their march, which will begin at the Maha Maya flyover in Noida. By noon, they intend to reach the Parliament complex to demand their rights and compensation as outlined in the new laws.
