Highlighting the richness of Eastern theology, the Syro-Malabar Diocese of Great Britain organized the "Urha 2024" family theological quiz competition as part of its Theological Year celebrations under the second five-year pastoral plan. The initiative aimed to deepen the understanding of Syro-Malabar Church theology among diocesan families.
The prestigious first prize—£3,000, a trophy, and a certificate—was awarded to Jomon John and Bibitha K. Baby from the Haywards Heath Our Lady of Health Mission. Remarkably, this family duo also clinched the top spot in last year’s Liturgy Year Quiz.
The second prize of £2,000 and a trophy went to the Thommitazhe family, represented by Ebin T.J. and Anita Joseph from the Manchester Holy Farm Mission. The Pulikakunnel family team—Sabu Joseph, Shini Sabu, and Ron Mathew Sabu—from the Edinburgh St. Alphonsa and St. Anthony Mission, secured the third prize of £1,000 and a trophy.
The grand finale, held at the Liverpool Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Auditorium, saw 40 families from across the diocese compete at the national level following intense rounds of qualification. Six families advanced to the final stage. Fr. Nithin Ilanjimattom served as the quiz master, guiding participants through an engaging competition.
Diocesan Bishop Mar Joseph Srampikal presented cash prizes, trophies, and certificates to the winners, while all finalists received participation certificates.
Prominent figures attending the event included Diocesan Pastoral Coordinator Rev. Dr. Tom Olikkarot, Quiz Program Coordinator Rev. Dr. Babu Puthanpurakkal, Rev. Fr. James Kozhimala, Rev. Fr. Jinu Mundunatakal, Pastoral Council Secretary Romils Mathew Muringamatthil, and Theology Committee members Deacon Joyce Pallikyamalil, Dr. Martin Thomas Antony, and Jaisamma Bijo.
This celebration of theology underscores the Diocese’s commitment to fostering spiritual education and community engagement.
