Kottayam: Sibigiri Parish, part of the Pala Diocese, has etched its name in history with a remarkable act of devotion to the Word of God. In an inspiring initiative, 125 families from the parish hand-copied 125 complete Bibles in just 120 days, culminating in the first-ever handwritten Bible proclamation rally in the Church's history, titled Biblia 2K24.
The rally commenced at St. Sebastian's Church, Sibigiri, Muttom, and concluded at Marth Mariam Church, Muttom Town. It was inaugurated by Bishop Mar Jacob Murikkan, who emphasized the transformative power of Scripture. “The Word of God is the sole path to salvation. It holds the power to make the impossible possible, and the act of handwriting the Bible invites believers to explore its depths. The dedication of these 125 families is an extraordinary example for all faithful and the world at large,” he remarked.
Organized under the guidance of Vicar Fr. John Pailthottam, the event aimed to inspire the parish community to deepen their faith by studying and living according to Scripture. Parishioners of all ages participated in the rally, which started at 8:30 a.m. and concluded at Muttom Town Church by 9:30 a.m. Bishop Mar Jacob Murikkan greeted the participants, blessed the handwritten Bibles, and officially received them at the church.
The celebration continued with a Holy Mass presided over by the Bishop, followed by a general assembly. The event featured addresses from Vicar Fr. John Pailthottam, Associate Vicar Fr. Johnson Pakkarambel, Family Association Diocesan President Sebastian Payyani, Catholic Congress Pala Diocese Secretary Edwin Pampara, and other notable speakers.
This unique and spiritually enriching initiative serves as a powerful testament to the faith and commitment of the Sibigiri Parish, offering a model for communities worldwide to draw closer to God through the Word.
