Kochi: The KCBC has resolved to commence the construction of 100 houses pledged by the Catholic Church within this month. Despite four months having passed since the Wayanad-Vilangad natural disaster, delays in fulfilling housing promises by the government and voluntary organizations are increasingly seen as neglect toward the affected communities. The government must act swiftly to cut through bureaucratic obstacles and ensure Wayanad-Vilangad does not become a hotspot for human rights concerns. The ongoing delay in identifying and allocating suitable land for housing construction remains a significant roadblock, compounded by the lack of clear governmental directives on the building process.
The Church has so far raised ₹8.10 crore for this initiative, reflecting the collective generosity of its supporters. To honor this solidarity and uphold justice for the affected families, the KCBC meeting concluded today with a decision to initiate construction at an appropriate location this month. KCBC President Cardinal Cleemis Catholicos will officially inaugurate the project.
