Vatican City: Mercedes-Benz has delivered a new vehicle to Pope Francis to use in greeting and blessing the faithful in St. Peter's Square. This special vehicle, known as the Popemobile, was handed over by Ola Källenius, CEO of Mercedes-Benz, during his visit to the Vatican on Wednesday. The keys were presented in a specially crafted box.
The new Popemobile is a modified version of Mercedes-Benz's electric G-Class SUV, continuing the tradition of using the brand's vehicles for the Pope's public appearances. The vehicle is painted in pearl white, following the same style as its predecessors. Mercedes-Benz has been providing vehicles to the Vatican for 94 years, and for the past 45 years, the Popemobile has been built on the G-Class model. The new vehicle is fully electric, designed to meet the specific needs of the Vatican.
Pope Francis will be the first pope to travel in an all-electric Mercedes-Benz for public events, marking a significant milestone for the company. Mercedes-Benz CEO Källenius expressed his gratitude, saying it was an honor for the company to earn the Pope's trust. Pope Francis has long used electric or hybrid cars for his travels.
