Mananthavady: The Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) will officially launch its housing initiative aimed at rehabilitating those affected by the Mundakai Chooralmala landslide disaster on Thursday, the 19th of this month, at 4 pm. The inauguration will be presided over by KCBC Chairman, Cardinal Baselios Mar Cleemis Catholicos.
Prominent figures such as Mar Jose Porunnedam, Bishop of Mananthavady Diocese, Bathery Malankara Catholic Bishop Joseph Mar Thomas, Dr. Varghese Chakkalakkal, Bishop of Kozhikode Diocese, Mar Jose Pulikkal, Chairman of the JPD Commission, Fr. Jacob Mavungal, Secretary, Fr. Jinoj Palathadathil, Director of WSSS, I.C. Balakrishnan MLA, T. Siddique MLA, along with other local leaders, will attend the ceremony.
The first home in this rehabilitation project is being built on land acquired by the Mananthavady Diocese at Thommattuchala. In total, KCBC plans to construct approximately one hundred homes across Wayanad and Vilangad. According to a statement from the PRO of Mananthavady Diocese, initial steps have also been taken to expand the housing project in partnership with the KCBC.
