Kakkanad: Today, a remarkable handwritten New Testament of the Holy Bible was brought to the Syro-Malabar Church office at Mount St. Thomas, Kakkanad, for its grand unveiling by Major Archbishop Mar Raphael Thattil. This New Testament, resembles the original, was meticulously prepared by Gracy Cheruvathur from Thrissur. She created it with the same beauty and precision as the complete Bible officially released by the Syro-Malabar Church.
The unveiling was featured on the official YouTube channel of the Syro-Malabar Church, with the introduction of both the handwritten Bible and its creator by the Church’s spokesperson, Fr. Antony Vadakkekkara.
Gracy Cheruvathur, a former teacher, began transcribing and illustrating the Bible after her retirement. Inspired by the words of her brother, Fr. George Cheruvathur, the vicar of Poonamich Parish in Thrissur, Gracy felt called to undertake this project. She credited her God-given gifts of artistry, writing, and patience as essential to completing the work. Every page, including the cover, is a testament to her dedication, with all illustrations and writing done by hand.
This unique Bible has a stunning presentation, surprising all who open it to discover that nothing is printed—every word and illustration is hand-drawn and written. Gracy completed transcribing the New Testament in just 48 days, with immense support from her family.
Fr. Antony Vadakkekkara announced that this handwritten New Testament will be displayed at the Heritage Center’s museum at the Syro-Malabar Church headquarters. Visitors to the museum will have the opportunity to admire this extraordinary work. He extended his heartfelt gratitude and blessings to Gracy, her family, and Fr. George for their dedication and hard work. May God bless them all.
