Pope Francis Encourages Young People in Rome: "You Bring Something New into the World"

Pope Francis Encourages Young People in Rome:

In a heartfelt message to young people, Pope Francis emphasized the unique contributions each individual brings to the world as they prepare to enter the workforce. The message was delivered during an event organized by the Roman branch of A.C.L.I., the Italian Christian Worker’s Association, on Tuesday. The gathering aimed to introduce students to the dynamics of the working world.

Addressing the students, Pope Francis remarked, “The world is opening itself before you.” He acknowledged that while the world may seem “crowded and distracted,” it eagerly awaits the unique contributions of each young person.

“I want to tell each one of you that you bring something new to the world,” he said. “With you, everything, truly everything, can change.”

Pope reflected on the profound connection between work and the heart, referencing his recent encyclical "Dilexit nos". He explained that while the heart is often associated with love and friendship, it also plays a vital role in decision-making, especially in the workplace.

“For the Bible, the heart is the place for decision-making. Guard it!” he urged, encouraging the students to remain true to their values as they embark on their professional journeys.

He acknowledged the challenges young workers might face, including overwhelming expectations and pressures. In such moments, Pope Francis advised them to “guard your heart” to maintain peace and freedom.

“Do not bend to demands that humiliate you or cause you discomfort, to ways of proceeding and demands that undermine your genuineness,” he added.

Pope Francis cautioned against compromising one’s values for social prestige or financial gain. “Do not conform to models you do not believe in to gain social prestige or extra money,” he said. “Evil alienates us, extinguishes our dreams, and makes us lonely and resigned.”

Instead, he encouraged the students to adhere to their principles, which would allow them to make meaningful contributions to society.

Concluding his message, Pope called on the students to collaborate and build networks to “rebuild our common home and reweave the network of human fraternity.”

“All work that does not alienate, but rather sets us free, begins in the heart,” he said, reminding the students that the human heart is a source of hope and strength.

Pope Francis’ words resonated with the audience, offering guidance and encouragement as they prepare to navigate the challenges of the professional world while upholding their dignity and values.
