Rome to Host Jubilee of the World of Communications in January 2025

Rome is set to welcome media professionals from around the globe for the first jubilee event of the Holy Year 2025 following the opening of the Holy Doors: the Jubilee of the World of Communications. Scheduled from January 24–26, this special event invites journalists, video producers, editors, graphic designers, and social media managers to renew their faith and embrace the spiritual graces offered during the Jubilee of Hope.

The program begins on January 24 with a welcoming event and a penitential liturgy at 5:30 p.m. in the Eternal City. On January 25, participants will commemorate the feast of St. Francis de Sales, the patron saint of journalists and writers, with a Mass at St. John Lateran Basilica. Following this, attendees will embark on a pilgrimage to the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, which was ceremonially opened by Pope Francis on December 24. Since then, more than half a million pilgrims from around the world have crossed through the sacred doors.

A highlight of the event is the meeting at 10 a.m. on January 25 at the Vatican, featuring Filipino journalist Maria Ressa and Irish writer Colum McCann. Later that day, an audience with Pope Francis will take place at 12:30 p.m. in Paul VI Hall. In the afternoon, the Dicastery for Communication will host a cultural and spiritual meeting in Paul VI Hall, concluding with a live broadcast of vespers led by the Holy Father in St. Paul Outside the Walls Basilica as part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Attendees will also have the opportunity to watch the documentary *Green Lava*.

Young communicators, by invitation, will gather for a special event titled “Uniting Communicators for a Shared Journey.” A variety of other conferences and activities will enrich the Jubilee, including a talk titled “Journalism as a Mission: Giving Voice to the Voiceless on the Outskirts of Humankind,” hosted at the Lateran Palace by the Vicariate of Rome, and “Communicating Hope and Peace,” organized by the Italian Bishops’ Conference, held at Santa Maria in Trastevere Basilica. Additionally, a roundtable will be hosted by the Pauline Family at Regina degli Apostoli alla Montagnola Basilica, and a meeting with Vaticanists will be organized by the Spanish Bishops’ Conference at LUMSA University.

The Jubilee will conclude on January 26 with the Sunday of the Word of God Mass, presided over by Pope Francis at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Basilica. This gathering underscores the Church’s recognition of the essential role of communication in spreading the message of hope and peace to the world.
