Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has reaffirmed his government’s readiness to address any challenges arising from potential tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Speaking on Tuesday, Trudeau acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding Trump's trade policies and described him as a "skilled negotiator" who keeps his counterparts "off-balance."
Trump, who took office this week, is anticipated to sign more executive orders as part of his administration's swift policy shifts. On Monday, he hinted at implementing tariffs on Mexican and Canadian exports to the United States, which could take effect as early as February.
“Donald Trump's approach does bring in uncertainty,” Trudeau said, emphasizing that he communicates "regularly" with the U.S. President. Regarding the next formal discussions between the two leaders, Trudeau encouraged Canadians to "stay tuned."
Trudeau also highlighted Canada’s crucial role in supporting U.S. economic growth, pointing out the nation’s contribution to essential resources. “Canada provides many of the necessary inputs the American economy is going to need in order to grow and boom,” he stated.
As the Trump administration's trade strategies unfold, Canada remains poised to adapt and protect its economic interests.
