Pope Francis, currently undergoing treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital for a respiratory infection, has expressed his sorrow at not being able to join the faithful in person for the Sunday Angelus. Despite his medical team ordering complete rest, the Holy See Press Office released the text of his prepared address, in which he reflected on the power of art to unite people and called for prayers for peace in conflict zones.
In his message, Pope highlighted the special Jubilee celebration dedicated to artists and members of the world of culture. He expressed his gratitude to the Dicastery for Culture and Education for organizing the event and acknowledged the Eucharistic celebration held in the Vatican to honor the occasion. Describing art as a "universal language that spreads beauty and unites people," he emphasized its ability to promote harmony and counteract the cries of war.
Pope also turned his attention to ongoing conflicts, urging prayers for those suffering due to violence in Ukraine, Palestine, Israel, the Middle East, Myanmar, Kivu, and Sudan. He reiterated his appeal for peace and expressed solidarity with those affected by war and displacement.
Despite his health challenges, Pope Francis conveyed his appreciation for the support he has received. He thanked the faithful for their prayers and acknowledged the dedicated medical staff at Gemelli Hospital, describing their work as invaluable and calling for continued prayers for them.
Concluding his message, Pope invoked the intercession of the Virgin Mary, asking that all people may become "singers and artisans of the beauty that saves the world."
