North Korea has accused the United States and its allies of escalating military tensions in the region, calling their actions "pronounced provocations," according to a statement released by state media KCNA on Saturday.
The country's defense ministry criticized recent joint military drills and the continued U.S. military presence in South Korea, stating that such activities threaten North Korea’s security. The statement, attributed to the ministry’s information office chief, warned that Pyongyang would respond to what it perceives as strategic threats with its own military measures.
This comes after South Korea's defense ministry reported that a joint air drill was conducted with the U.S. on Thursday, involving at least one B-1B strategic bomber. While South Korea describes these drills as defensive in nature, North Korea views them as preparations for war.
Tensions in the region remain high as both sides continue to assert their positions regarding military activities.
