Pope's clinical condition continues to show slight improvements

The Holy See Press Office has provided an update on Pope Francis' health, reporting slight progress in both his respiratory and motor functions.

On the night of March 18, the Pope did not require mechanical ventilation, a positive sign in his recovery. This update was shared with journalists on Tuesday evening, as the Pontiff continues to receive care at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, where he was admitted on February 14 due to a respiratory infection and bilateral pneumonia.

According to the statement, his condition remains stable within a complex clinical picture, showing gradual improvements in breathing and mobility. The need for non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night and high-flow oxygen therapy during the day continues to decline.

For the first time, he managed the night without mechanical ventilation, relying solely on high-flow oxygen. However, while encouraging, this development is part of a careful and measured reduction process.

Throughout the day, Pope Francis underwent treatments, spent time in prayer, and engaged in light work. His prescribed medical diet has been adjusted to include solid food.

The next official health update is expected tomorrow evening.
